Adopted Baby!!!

Baby found her home yesterday! A fellow Greyhound lover met her at Greyfest yesterday and a match was made. I am very happy for this sweet, wonderful girl, but she took a piece of my heart with her.

Congratulations to Baby & her new family. I wish you all a lot of love and happiness.

Sleeping Baby

Baby is resting up for Greyfest, one of SEGA's annual gatherings. It will be held tomorrow, Saturday, from approx. 9 AM-4 PM at the International Horse Park in Conyers. All Greyhound lovers and admirers are invited. Baby will be attending as well as and one or two of my other hounds. It will be a long, exciting day but Baby will enjoy meeting people and getting lots of attention.

When Baby first came in she was thin. Since her dental she has been an eating machine and is gaining some weight. If I had to choose, I would take hounds on the thin side instead of heavy. So since Baby only needed a few pounds, I am trying to make weight gain a slow and steady process. Baby seems more than happy comply with the request that she clean her plate. She is a chow hound, no doubt.

This brings us to the "true confessions" part of the post. Baby likes to be a kitchen supervisor. She isn't a thief, thank goodness, but she is more than happy to help keep the floor clean. She has volunteered her services as the taste tester as well. To date, I have not taken her up on that but Baby remains an optimist.

Silly Baby

While not truly lazy, for a Greyhound, Baby sure appreciates a soft spot and a little beauty sleep. Sometimes she looks a little silly when she does that. She's so cute.

Beautiful Baby

What a beautiful girl Baby is! She is sweet, polite, affectionate and such an easy dog to both fall in love with and live with.

Baby loves attention, treats, long naps, attention, walks and a little more attention. She is happy to lay down nearby and sleep while you work but she also does little drive-byes to see if you will pet her for a bit before going outside or napping again. She also loves finding sunspots to lay in.

She is patiently waiting for her forever home. Could you be the one to make Baby's dreams come true?

P.S. Look at those ears! Aren't they fantastic?

Poor Baby!

Baby came to us with some serious bad breath so the group sent her to the vet for a dental. Poor kid ended up having all of her molars removed. She has just her canines and front incisors left. That surgery was Monday. She ended up needing to stay the night at the vet and wasn't feeling up to much when she came home Tuesday. This is a picture of her then. It should be considered an outtake.

"I'm not up for pictures right now. Please put the flashy box away."

Thankfully by Wednesday she was already feeling better.

"OK, you can take my picture now as long as I get to stay on the big comfy bed."

(That bed is twice the size it looks in the picture. It's huge!)

By Thursday she was rushing to her place for dinner and hoovering up her slurry of dry food and water with a just enough canned food to make a gravy. As of Friday she is back to being an eager eater and begs for treats. For now she only gets softer treats and seems to thoroughly enjoy those, taking a little while to gum the treats before swallowing and begging for more.

Baby is a very affectionate dog. She loves, loves, loves being petted. When she gets excited, like when you come home, go for walks or treat time, the girl is outright bubbly. She may be a bit older and missing some teeth but she makes up for that with charm and enthusiasm. She's hoping those old lyrics are really true:

"Fairy tales can come true,
It can happen to you,
If you're young at heart."

Can you make Baby's fairy tale come true? All she wants is a forever home that can love a mature gal who's prepared to give her family a lifetime of love every day.

Oh Baby!

Baby has been with us for a week now. What a sweetie! She loves people, attention and lots of petting. This delightful girl is definitely young at heart. Baby loves to go outside. She is so happy exploring the yard and leisurely walks. When Baby comes back inside she is very excited. She actually bounces in her funny way. It is so cute. She also adores rides in the car. I can barely get the van door open before she leaps inside. "Let's go!"

One thing you can't see in Baby's pictures are her awesome ears. They stick straight up with she is interested in something. I will try to get a good picture of them. They are her crowning glory.

At our house Baby is sharing space with three other hounds and two very active cats. She is extremely good with the cats but if they start running around, leaping on and off of furniture, Baby heads for another room. Those crazy cats get to be a bit too much for her. She is fine though with them rubbing against and head butting her. Baby is not as happy when they steal her bed if she gets up but she just goes off to another spot until the offending kitty leaves.

We've seen her around other dogs including smaller ones with everyone on leash. Baby was a perfect lady, friendly and polite.

Baby is just such a good girl.
